DeGeneres for the "Idol Gives Back"

Ellen DeGeneresEllen DeGeneres, who has hosted the Oscars, the Grammys and the Emmys, will do the honors at Wednesday's "American Idol" charity event, which will boast appearances by the likes of Bono,Gwen Stefani and Pink.

"Idol Gives Back," a special two-hour results show, will benefit relief programs for children and young people in extreme poverty.

It will feature performances from the "Idol" stage as well as from the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, where DeGeneres will be based. It will air on Fox from 8-10 p.m.

Bono will meet with the six "Idol" finalists to talk about the work of ONE: The Campaign to Make Poverty History and how the audience can help. The "Idol" contestants also will perform a song written by Bono and Dave Stewart about the
AIDS emergency in Africa titled "American Prayer."

Other participants include "American Idol" alumni Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, Celine Dion, Earth, Wind & Fire, Il Divo, Keira Knightley, Hugh Grant, Josh Groban, Jack Black, Helen Mirren, Rascal Flatts, Quincy Jones, and
Annie Lennox.

On Tuesday's "Idol" performance show, airing from 8-9 p.m., the finalists will sing "life anthem" songs.
